Dead fish indicate
sick river, smelly start to summer
By Susanna P. Barton
Ann Hicks has lived on the banks of the St. Johns River her entire
life. And this summer's pervasive fish kill has been the worst
she has ever seen - many others agree and are looking for answers.
"I have never seen anything to compare to this fish kill," said
Hicks. Riverkeeper Neil Armingeon visited her house and their
neighbors the Kreugers next door to take photos of the fish with
local artist Jim Draper. "Beautiful big Red Fish are being washed
up on the rocks daily. The stench permeates the entire area."

Gateway to Venetia restoration complete:
Project receives resident props
By Susanna P. Barton
Afternoon tea brings together memories, families
An automobile accident nearly five years ago devastated the Gateway
to Venetia landmark on Yacht Club Road. Now the historical neighborhood
gateways are standing tall once more. At long last, the restoration
is complete and residents who have helped drive the initiative
are celebrating.
